You, your hidden gem to thrive
Worldwide, three in four children under seventeen, experience daily violence at the hand of their caregiver and/or parent.
Your Body Has The Wisdom To Heal
The human nervous system is intricately woven with stored daily experiences; it needs some nourishment and energic clearing, once in a while. Knowing that three in four of us have experienced violence, many of us have trauma to clear. I have a mountain of respect for those in the process of healing. I wonder, do you have to feel it to heal it though? We hear this phrase a lot in the world of healing. I believe we should define this phrase to show respect to those healing, and for those curious about the healing journey.
One year ago at age thirty-nine, every one of my eleven organ systems began to shut down. I had spent thousands of dollars on health and wellness treatments, as well as, certifications in my quest to ease my suffering; yet, no treatment appeased my search to heal. My almost forty year search to uncover the hidden gem to healing, truly began when I learned about the Adverse Childhood Experiences (A.C.E.'s) score. I was completing my Advanced Clinical Trauma Specialist Certification (Arizona Institute for Trauma.) The A.C.E.'s score lists ten life experiences, and if you have experienced eight or more, your life expectancy is twenty years less! I proceeded to delve into understanding the nervous system, with the zest to want to live longer.
I had had a childhood history of rape, attempted murder, physical and sexual assault, and these were all unhealed traumas. I began to learn that there were multiple research studies, citing the clear relationship between childhood abuse and poor health outcomes as an adult. The recognition that my unhealed trauma derogated my nervous system, gave me hope that if I healed my trauma; I would be free from not only the wrath of past abuser energies, but free from chronic pain, depression, auto-immune diseases, and my fear of living.
"The journey through trauma healing takes courage, energy, and someone to hold a safe space."(Brave, 2022)
I continued to learn more about how to heal my nervous system, and I began to teach my clients strategies they could do on their own, to regulate their nervous system. I became certified in body based therapies including: Marma Therapy, Yin Yoga Marma, Reflexology, Breathwork, and Emotional Freedom Techniques. I also learned from incredible bodywork leaders, including Dr. Peter A. Levine, Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk, and Ewen McCulloch. These leaders identified the power that the body has to self heal, which is also purported by Ayurvedic and Chinese Medicine. I am particularly drawn to the Ayurvedic bodywork technique Marma Chikita Therapy, it is easy to do anywhere or anytime, and is powerful in soothing the nervous system. The combination and the practice of all of these body-based techniques, helped me teach my body to learn to feel safe.
My ability to finally thrive came from creating safety in my body, a safe environment around me, and from the following three steps. First, I needed to validate and recognize that it was the trauma, that was shadowing my ability to thrive. Second, I needed to feel the emotions that I couldn't at the time of the traumas, and this is where body-based work was my gem; I had suppressed my trauma emotions until, I felt safe to express them. Finally, getting to know who I am without the layers of trauma was quintessential it recognizing my worthiness to thrive. Feeling it to heal it, is in my opinion, a powerful step in liberating one's body from the torment of trauma.
We all deserve to thrive and to recognize our power to heal; sending much love and light to all those on this harrowing, yet freeing journey.
